"I'm too calm" - said nobody, ever
May 01, 2022
A friend recently told me that "calm & balance" doesn't go along with her desire for adventure and excitement in life.
We had a long talk about it, (which was fun on it's own to be honest)
and by the end, she agreed with me that we should fully live our lives (adventure, fun, excitements, crazy moments etc.), but that the things that can help us do this are navigating better the ups & downs, cultivating calm and create long-lasting positive, healthy habits.
I was super happy that I made her realize that 😁
So many of us confuse 'Zen' with 'Calm' - so let me try to explain the difference:
Zen comes from Buddhism, it's a state of mind, represent by full relaxation, while being focused on your body & mind and being present in the moment.
Calm starts with your state of mind, but it can become a way of living. Just like the sea, we and our lives can be agitate, or without rough motion. When we seek calm, we aim for less drama, less storms, and more tranquility in our day-to-day.
So what we're trying to say is that you can have an adventurous, full of zest, enjoyment and excitement life - without crazy highs and stormy lows - aka a calm & balanced life in which you feel fully present & alive!
This was our biggest aim in our personal lives a couple of years ago,
and to be faire - this is still what drives us every single day.
We're able to positively navigate the expat challenges we face, and all the stressors we deal with - because we cultivate calm in our day-to-day and learned how to balance ourselves up when needed.
It didn't happen overnight, let's be honest.
But practice makes it better! and we constantly get better at this.
