3 things you can do today to cultivate calm
May 15, 2022
Cultivating calm is not about putting aside uncomfortable situations, avoiding stressful emotions, and not dealing with them; but it does mean we grow the energy and mindset within us to help us weather the storm better.
While life regularly throws chaos at us, our resilience is what keeps us going. However, it might feel like our own resilience is playing hide-and-seek with us at times, doesn't it?
So we "suck it up", push ourselves even more, drink another coffee and let the survival mode take it's place.
What if there was another way? A calmer way, that will actually make us feel energized and alive again. Wouldn't it be helpful?
As I sit in front of my laptop, with my bathrobe and my coffee, enjoying my quiet morning, I thought, what better time to talk to you about stress and calm?
Well time is now, right?! 😆
You might be thinking "how can she talk about stress, while sitting peacefully in her bathrobe?!", so let me try and ease your mind.
A couple of years ago, wearing my bathrobe was a bad sign. A Saturday morning in which I just couldn't get myself to do anything. Usually the result of a super stressful week, not to mention weeks. I would wake up super late, and by the time I forced myself out of bed, I'd shower, wear my bathrobe, and lay down on the sofa, numb, for the rest of the day.
Stress had been consuming all of my energy, my joie-de-vivre, like the French would say.
But guess what, it doesn't have to be like that.
Stress is not meant to be a 24/7 thing. Yet many of us get so caught up in our various stressful life situations that we think this is the way it has to be. That "when things are going to calm down, it will be better" - but they usually don't. Cause things don't change on their own. And the challenging situations . . . well they are challenging.
So we keep going, pushing ourselves, getting emotionally & sometimes even physically exhausted.
That's when cultivating calm comes into play.
Bringing calmness to our day-to-day allows us to better manage our energy and not reaching burnout. But above all, it gives us the opportunity to feel present & alive so we can enjoy this moment instead of rushing from one thing to another hoping things "will calm down".
Now you might be telling yourself "easier said than done" right?.
Let me tell you this - you're absolutely right!
It is, however, possible! and it does not necessitate major life changes. It necessitates a desire to change as well as practice.
Here are 3 things you could do TODAY to cultivate calm:
🌈 Breath. All you need is 5-10 min of breathing exercise a day to find yourself sleeping better, being less anxious and feel more emotionally stable.
Here's one of the most calming breathing exercises: Breathe in through your nose (to a count of four), hold, and then exhale through your mouth (to the count of 6 or 8).
Tip: your breathing should sound a little like the ocean.
🌈 Self compassion. During the day (at least once), tell yourself something kind. This builds your resiliency.
We are our biggest critics, but try to shift the attention at least once a day by saying something good about yourself. The more you'll do it the better. If it feels too much, start with small things. The idea is to be compassionate & kind toward yourself. You're dealing with a lot - so a little compassion could really be beneficial.
🌈 Join our Coaching Program - Present, Calm & Alive.
During those 6-week we will work together towards cultivating calm, creating a sense of balance in our day to day, building resiliency and reconnect with ourselves - all so that we could feel more present & alive no matter where we are.
If you've never worked with us before, then we'd love to have a friendly chat with you, so you can see for yourself how beneficial this could be for you. All you got to do is fill in this short form. And we'll get back to you withing 48h to schedule a call.
We tend to think that bringing calm into our lives will keep us away from adventure, fun and excitement cause it's "calm", but on the contrary. This is what brings us closer to ourselves, our wants & desire, and make sure we fully enjoy them.
Sending positive vibes your way ✨
